Before the framework agreement was reached, McIlroy had been a vocal critic of LIV Golf and the disruption caused by the Saudi-backed league. Now, he is focused on the need for a deal with the PIF to reunite men’s professional golf. He expressed disappointment over the current divide in the game and hopes that a resolution can be reached soon.
McIlroy has been frustrated by the lack of a deal between the Tour and PIF and has been actively involved in negotiations. He was recently named to the transaction subcommittee, which is responsible for leading the day-to-day negotiations. The fact that Tour commissioner Jay Monahan walked with McIlroy during his pro-am round on Wednesday indicates ongoing discussions towards a potential deal with PIF.
