During Tuesday’s game between the Los Angeles Sparks and the Connecticut Sun, rookie Cameron Brink sustained a knee injury that forced her to be carried off the court. The Sparks confirmed at halftime that Brink’s injury was to her knee and announced that she would not be returning to the game. However, they did not provide any additional details about the severity of the injury.

The injury occurred in the first quarter when Brink fell to the court after contact with Sun forward Brionna Jones while driving to the basket. She immediately grabbed her left knee and struggled to stand up, eventually needing assistance from her teammates to get back on her feet. Once on the sidelines, she was carried off the court by trainers.

Brink, who was selected as the No. 2 pick in April’s WNBA Draft out of Stanford, had been averaging 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 2.4 blocks, and 1.1 steals per game in the 14 games she had played prior to the injury. She was also shooting 39.8% from the floor and 32.3% from 3-point range. Brink had recently been named to Team USA’s 3×3 basketball team for the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The loss of Brink is a major blow for Los Angeles as she has been a valuable contributor to their team since joining in April.

The Sparks will continue their season without Brink as they take on New York Liberty next week at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
