The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester has received funding from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, which is focused on improving access to healthcare for marginalized populations. During a recognition event on Tuesday, Simone Edwards, Vice President of Health Equity and Community Investments at Excellus BlueCross BlueShades, highlighted the impact of community partners in improving the lives of thousands of individuals. One guest, Desiray Washington from Olean, shared her experience with the Ronald McDonald House Charities and expressed gratitude for the support they provided during her daughter’s rare genetic disorder diagnosis. Washington emphasized the importance of having a “home away from home” during hospital stays for both her unexpected delivery and previous stays during her pregnancy. Her daughter was born prematurely and spent a total of 140 days at the Ronald McDonald House. She credited the organization for providing essential support to families like hers and said she doesn’t know what she would do without their assistance. The Ronald McDonald House has been a lifeline for families facing medical challenges, offering a comforting space during difficult times.
