AC Milan has appointed Paulo Fonseca as their new manager on a three-year contract, following the departure of Stefano Pioli after a second consecutive trophyless season. Despite being linked with other top managers like Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi, AC Milan chose Fonseca as Pioli’s successor after his successful tenure at Roma.

Fonseca returns to Italian football after coaching Roma for two years, where he finished fifth and seventh before being fired in 2021. He then moved to Lille, where he guided the team to fifth and fourth-place finishes in Ligue 1. AC Milan hopes that Fonseca’s attacking-minded approach and style of play will help the team improve on their recent performances.

One of Fonseca’s first tasks will be to find a replacement for striker Olivier Giroud, with Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna being a potential candidate. If negotiations with Zirkzee’s agent fail, Milan may turn to Jonathan David, who played under Fonseca at Lille. In addition to signing a new forward, AC Milan is also looking to add a deep-lying midfielder and a quality centre-back to strengthen the squad for the upcoming season.

Fonseca’s arrival at AC Milan marks the start of a new era for the club as they aim to close the gap on rivals Inter Milan after a disappointing league campaign. His appointment brings excitement and hope for Milan fans as they look forward to seeing what improvements he can make with the team.
