Indian captain Rohit Sharma has officially declared that his victory in the T20 World Cup against South Africa would be his last game in the format. In a post-match press conference, Rohit expressed his emotions and gratitude for the opportunity to represent India in T20 cricket. He mentioned that winning the World Cup was a dream come true for him and he cherished every moment of his T20 career representing India.

Rohit reflected on India’s ICC tournament win after 11 years, admitting that he was overwhelmed with emotions as he struggled to put into words how he felt. He spoke about his intense desire to win the World Cup and how he managed to control his nerves during the crucial game. With this win, Rohit became the third Indian captain to lead a team to a World Cup victory, joining Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni.

Rohit also made history by becoming the first captain to lead a team in 50 T20I matches, with his milestone victory being the World Cup final against South Africa. Taking over as captain after India’s disappointing performance in the 2021 T20 World Cup, Rohit led the team to an impressive campaign that ended with an unbeaten run in the tournament.

Interestingly, Rohit’s announcement about retiring from T20 cricket comes after Virat Kohli, who captained India during their previous World Cup title run, declared that this would be his final game in the shortest format of international cricket. Kohli was named player of the match in the final and thanked everyone involved for helping them achieve their goal of winning another world cup title. The duo’s retirement marks
