Maurice Redhorn III, a standout player in both basketball and team roping, has signed to compete at MSU-Northern. The Frontier Conference school made the announcement on Tuesday. Redhorn has been a state high school rodeo qualifier for the past two years and has received recognition as a two-time co-Most Valuable Player in the Northwest A league.

MSU-Northern basketball coach Shawn Huse expressed his excitement at having Redhorn join their program. In a statement released by the school, Huse described Redhorn as having a great attitude, being responsible, mature, tough, and hard-working. Redhorn echoed this sentiment by stating that it has always been a dream of his to play collegiate sports, specifically basketball, and he chose MSU-Northern because they were willing to allow him to pursue both of his passions.

Standing at 6-foot-1, Redhorn played a key role in leading Browning to the State A tournament in March. During the regular season, he averaged 19.2 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. In his junior year, Redhorn averaged 16.6 points and 5 rebounds, and as a sophomore, he averaged 11.3 points and 4.1 rebounds. Redhorn cited MSU-Northern’s strong basketball program and flexibility to participate in both sports as key factors in his decision to join the school.
