The Rock River Rapids in Derby, Kansas is taking part in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson to set a world record and raise awareness about the importance of teaching kids how to swim. Staff at Rock River Rapids is joining other facilities worldwide to promote the message that swimming saves lives.

Statistics from the WLSL show that drowning is the top cause of death for children in the U.S. between the ages of 1-4, and the second leading cause for children ages 5-14. Research by the American Academy of Pediatrics indicates that formal swimming lessons can lower the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1-4.

Registration for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at Rock River Rapids begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, with the lesson starting at 10 a.m. This event is free and open to the public, welcoming participants of all ages. Children aged 3 and under must have an adult accompany them in the water, with one adult required per child.
