On Saturday evening, a shooting occurred at a water park near Detroit, Michigan. Nine people were injured in the incident, including two children. The suspect, a 42-year-old man with an unknown motive, shot himself after police surrounded him at a nearby house.

An eight-year-old child is in critical condition after being shot in the head while his four-year-old brother is also injured but stable. The boys’ mother is also in critical condition after being shot in the abdomen and leg. Oakland County Police Chief Michael Bouchard stated that the health conditions of the other six injured individuals are stable.

The shooting took place at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, where the suspect opened fire from a semi-automatic Glock weapon and reloaded multiple times. Rochester Hills is located just north of Detroit and was previously the scene of a mass shooting at a school in neighboring Oxford in 2021.

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer expressed her sorrow following the shooting and emphasized the need for understanding and support in the community.
