On Monday, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed that right-hander Christian Scott will be called up to start on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. Mendoza expressed that Scott is ready for this opportunity and has always been viewed as a major league pitcher. The need for a spot in the rotation has opened the door for Scott to showcase his talents.

Scott, a highly regarded pitching prospect within the organization, was previously called up earlier in the season and made five starts before being sent down. The decision to send him down was made to ensure he stayed sharp with regular pitching opportunities. Despite restrictions on his pitch count in Triple-A, Scott continued to impress.

Throughout his time with Syracuse, Scott did not pitch more than 5.0 innings in any game, but he only allowed a total of four earned runs. Mendoza explained that they were gradually increasing his pitch count, reaching up to 80-85 pitches in his recent starts to prepare him for his return to the big leagues.

In his previous five major league appearances, Scott posted a 3.90 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP, striking out 25 batters in 27.2 innings. With Tylor Megill back in Triple-A, Scott seems poised to remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future. The Mets could even consider transitioning to a six-man rotation once Kodai Senga returns from injury in the second half of the season. The team has high hopes for Scott and looks forward to seeing what he can achieve on the mound.

Mendoza also praised Scott’s ability to learn from his mistakes and adjust quickly on the mound. “Christian is a very talented young pitcher,” said Mendoza “He’s always been viewed as a major league player and we’re excited about what he can bring to our rotation.”

Scott’s call-up comes at an opportune time for the Mets as they face one of their biggest rivals, the Washington Nationals, who are currently leading them by two games in their division series.

“We need all hands on deck,” said Mendoza “And Christian is definitely an asset we need right now.”
