Ride into Body Positivity: World Naked Bike Ride Returns to Chicago and U.S. This Weekend

This Saturday, the World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is returning to Chicago and across the U.S. for its annual celebration of bicycle power and body positivity. Starting at 8 p.m. and running until about midnight, the route will cover approximately 14 miles, according to organizers.

WNBR describes itself as a clothing-optional event that highlights the vulnerability of cyclists and promotes body positivity. The event encourages participants to express themselves through body paint, underwear, and costumes while riding their bikes or skates. Full-frontal nudity is illegal in Chicago, but many participants are known to go “full out,” according to WNBR officials.

The official route for this year’s ride will be posted on the Chicago World Naked Bike Ride Facebook page on Friday evening. Cyclists and skaters should check in between 6 p.m. and 7:45 p.m., and the ride will occur in rain or shine. WNBR officials recommend bringing a helmet light, water, snacks, shoes, and clothes as a precaution. They also encourage riders to stay together as a mass and work with bike marshals for safety or in case of emergency, and to be prepared to help others in emergency situations if necessary.
