A new trend on TikTok is claiming that weight loss can be achieved with a concoction made of rice water and lime, which is a much cheaper alternative to Ozempic. This new diet, known as Rice-Zempic, is made by soaking rice in water to release natural starches that can make the drink more filling than plain water, according to Tiktokkers. While some users have reported rapid weight loss, nutritionists caution that this may not be a healthy approach.

One TikToker, Alfredo Valenzuela, tried the Rice-Zempic diet and initially saw results, but ultimately only lost 2.5 kilos after 12 days and decided to stop. Experts like Maartje Boot from the Dutch Nutrition Center advise against following TikTok trends like this and recommend sticking to a normal glass of water for hydration.

While some users may see temporary weight loss from consuming the Rice-Zempic concoction, there is no scientific evidence to support its effectiveness in promoting long-term weight loss. Scott Keatley from Keatley Medical Nutrition Therapy explains that drinking this concoction may result in consuming fewer calories and temporary weight loss, but it does not have the same hormonal effects as Ozempic. This trend has no medical basis for weight loss and does not mimic the effects of prescription drugs like Ozempic. It is important for individuals seeking to lose weight to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new diet or exercise program.
