Yahoo has announced that it is integrating AI technology from Artifact into its news app to improve the news consumption experience for users. The revamped app, set to launch on Thursday, will utilize AI features to provide better news recommendations, reduce clickbait and save time by offering key takeaways.

The Senior Vice President and General Manager of Yahoo News stated that the goal is to help people stay informed, understand the world around them and enjoy catching up on the news by delivering stories that are meaningful to them. The focus is on providing a news experience that is simple, relevant and useful for each user.

Yahoo acquired Artifact, an AI-driven news aggregation platform created by Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger in March. The intention was to leverage Artifact’s AI technology rather than its staff. The plan to integrate AI technology across Yahoo’s products was announced in April with the Yahoo News app being one of the key platforms to receive the AI-powered upgrade.

The integration includes an AI-powered personalized feed, similar to Artifact’s standalone product, allowing users to select topics and publishers of interest while filtering out unwanted content. Users can also block keywords, flag clickbait and share content seamlessly through the app. Additionally, Yahoo will introduce a new homepage experience featuring a more dynamic layout with personalized recommendations and real-time trending topics for users.
