AI is transforming the job market worldwide and Italy is no exception. A recent study by Hays Italia reveals an 88% increase in demand for professionals with specialized skills in AI during the first quarter of 2024 compared to the previous year. This surge in demand underscores the importance of digital skills and marks a pivotal moment for the job market.

While around 20% of professionals in Italy currently use generative artificial intelligence tools, many companies are still reluctant to adopt AI technology due to concerns about security or lack of understanding of its benefits. However, a majority of companies have yet to establish a clear strategy regarding AI adoption, which highlights the urgent need for training and professional development. Only 6% of companies currently offer programs focused on AI, making it crucial for professionals to seek out opportunities for continuous learning and skill-building.

Employees have mixed feelings about the implications of AI, with nearly half expressing worry about its impact on the job market. However, a large majority (76%) indicate readiness to adapt to changes in their professions or areas of expertise due to AI’s emergence. They cite potential benefits such as improved productivity, reduced errors, and increased creativity as reasons for embracing change.

The rise of AI has given birth to new professional roles such as AI Engineers, AI Ethicists, AI Architects, AI/ML Trust and Safety Managers, Cloud AI Developers, Machine Learning Developers, computer vision experts, and AI-focused business analysts. These roles require continuous training and development to keep up with emerging innovations in this field. Many professionals express a desire to participate in programs that equip them for these challenges brought by AI technology.
