The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to launch a three-year project that will transform the existing High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes into “Technology Lanes.” Starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 7, the northbound Central Expressway HOV lane will be shut down from the President George Bush Turnpike/SH 190 to the Sam Rayburn Tollway/SH 121 until the fall of 2025.

As part of the Technology Lanes initiative, TxDOT crews will remove the pylons separating the HOV and general lanes, restripe the HOV lanes, install full-color dynamic messaging signs, new overhead signs, high-mast lighting, and reconstruct the center barrier. Once completed, the Technology Lanes will be open to high-occupancy vehicles, low-emission vehicles, motorcycles, and single-occupant vehicles for 22 hours a day.
