Astronomers are raving about the quality of the images captured by Euclid, a space telescope operated by the European Space Agency. These images are at least four times sharper than those taken using ground-based telescopes, and they have opened up new possibilities for exploring the universe. Dr Jesper Skottfelt, a research fellow at The Open University’s Centre for Electronic Imaging, who works on the VIS technology that helps capture these incredible pictures, discusses the significance of the images and what lies ahead for Euclid’s mission.

In addition to Euclid’s impressive achievements, another space project is underway in Europe. Airbus in the UK is designing and building a satellite named ‘Vigil.’ Selected by ESA as an early warning system for potentially dangerous space weather, Vigil will help scientists monitor solar storms and coronal mass ejections that can disrupt satellites and electronic systems on Earth. The data collected by Vigil will provide advanced notice of solar winds approaching our planet, giving scientists time to prepare for any potential disruptions.

Meanwhile, other news is making headlines across Europe. BT has been fined nearly £3 million for failures affecting EE and PlusNet customers. Additionally, Microsoft’s AI feature is under investigation by UK authorities over screenshots. Scientists have also made shocking discoveries about the Sun’s magnetic field that could change how we understand our nearest star.
