Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Energy has been gifted with a Light Detection and Ranging unit by the USAID Power Central Asia activity. This cutting-edge technology is essential for accurate wind measurements, which are vital in developing renewable energy projects in the country, attracting investment and propelling the renewable energy sector forward.

During the handover ceremony, Minister of Energy Taalaibek Ibrayev expressed that this equipment will not only enhance the utilization of renewable energy sources but also aid in improving financial forecasts and expediting the implementation of wind farms and wind energy in Kyrgyzstan. To support this initiative, the USAID Power Central Asia activity has trained local technical staff on how to use this wind measurement equipment effectively.

Kaya Adams, USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Mission Director, emphasized the importance of strategically locating and implementing future wind projects with precision for maximum efficiency. This efficiency is critical in making informed investment decisions that will shape Kyrgyzstan’s energy future in a sustainable manner.

The USAID Power Central Asia activity is a five-year regional energy initiative aimed at enhancing the performance of Central Asia’s energy sectors. It introduces more competitive methods for producing clean energy, enhances energy security and resiliency through greater regional connectivity, and expands cross-border electricity trade. Since its inception in 2020, the Power Central Asia program has attracted $2.2 billion in clean energy investments and facilitated the installation of 2,241 Megawatts of clean energy capacity across the regions.
