The Eiffel Tower is currently undergoing renovations in preparation for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. Recently, crews raised the Olympic rings onto the iconic tower, marking just 50 days until the start of the games.
In addition to traditional Olympic sports, there will also be Olympic Games for video games. The International Olympic Committee has announced the creation of the “Olympic Esports Games,” a new international competition that will focus solely on virtual sports and video games. This plan is expected to be approved at an upcoming meeting of IOC members in Paris.
IOC President Thomas Bach stated that the creation of the Olympic Esports Games represents a significant step forward in embracing the digital revolution. He revealed that the first edition of the Esports Games could take place as early as next year or no later than 2026. Discussions are already underway with a potential host for the event.
The Esports Games will feature three categories of video games, including virtual sports like e-cycling, sports simulation games such as NBA 2K, and traditional e-games that are non-sports related. These games will not be integrated into the regular Olympic Games, but instead will be a separate event overseen by a different team within the IOC.
