Sam’s Club is revolutionizing the way it verifies receipts for its members by implementing artificial intelligence and computer vision technology at over 120 locations. This cutting-edge technology aims to put an end to the long lines that members often face when exiting the club.

Todd Garner, the chief product officer at Sam’s Club, expressed his pride in the innovation and dedication of his team behind this member experience technology. He highlighted how this technology, combined with Scan & Go, is enhancing convenience and member satisfaction. The seamless deployment of this technology across nearly 600 clubs nationwide sets Sam’s Club apart from its competitors.

The company first introduced this technology at an electronics show in January and has since made significant progress in rolling it out. The deployment of this AI-powered technology has already shown positive results, with more than half of members experiencing a faster and smoother exit process. By the end of 2024, the company plans to expand this technology to all its clubs.

The specific locations in Connecticut where this technology is being used were not disclosed by the company. However, it’s clear that this exit technology works by confirming that members have paid for all items in their shopping carts without requiring an associate to check the purchases. This eliminates the need for members to wait in line at the exit for verification. Instead, a combination of computer vision and digital technology captures images of carts and verifies payment for all items, allowing members to leave the club more efficiently.
