Endiatx has developed a swallowable robot known as the PillBot, which is set to revolutionize non-invasive endoscopies using cameras and sensors. This bite-sized piece of tech is on its way to commercial launch and is currently undergoing clinical trials in hopes of undergoing FDA review, potentially launching commercially by 2026.

The PillBot is designed to replace upper endoscopies by allowing doctors to quickly examine the inside of the stomach over a telemedicine call. It serves as a “moving eyeball in the stomach” that helps doctors navigate internal affairs with no sedation and minimal fasting required from the patient.

After being ingested, the PillBot moves around the body using patented multi-pumpjet propulsion controlled remotely by doctors. A live feed inside is illuminated by the robot’s LED system and is saved for AI-enhanced analysis later. CEO Torrey Smith has demonstrated the process by swallowing the PillBot more than 40 times. The robot shuts off and passes through the gastrointestinal system within 24 hours. Endiatx has raised $7 million in funding and plans to quadruple the video quality transmitted by the PillBot in the future.

The potential cost of a PillBot could be around $50, making it readily available and affordable for consumers. Endiatx is also considering developing an enhanced version of the PillBot known as the PillSurgeon, which would come equipped with additional tools for various medical procedures. With these advancements, patients can expect faster, more accurate diagnoses and treatments without invasive procedures or lengthy recovery times.
