Danelec, a leading Danish technology company, and DanPilot, a renowned piloting company from Denmark, have announced a new strategic partnership at the European Maritime Day conference in Svendborg. This partnership has resulted in the development of innovative technology that allows for remote piloting without the need for a pilot to physically board the ship.

Danelec has been collecting vessel and navigation data on commercial vessels for three decades. With this data now accessible through cloud-based technology, pilots can view it in near real-time onshore. By providing DanPilot with access to this data, pilots can have a comprehensive view of the ship as if they were on board, eliminating the need for them to physically join the vessel. This not only saves time and cost but also reduces the risk of accidents during pilot transfers.

With pilots no longer needing to board the ship, vessels can maintain their planned speed, resulting in lower fuel costs and improved scheduling. This solution has the potential to significantly impact safety, economy, and sustainability in the maritime industry.

The technology enabling remote piloting is supported by Danelec’s Vessel Remote Server solution, which collects real-time data from the ship. This solution is designed to empower onboard crew rather than override their decision-making capabilities, ensuring that operational command remains securely onboard and reducing external interference risk.

This remote piloting solution facilitates efficient and clear communication between the ship’s crew and shore-based pilots. Pilots can send navigational commands directly to the crew who can quickly respond and implement guidance further enhancing safety while maintaining operational efficiency.

In summary, this strategic partnership between Danelec and DanPilot has led to significant advancements in maritime technology that could revolutionize how ships are operated in future years.
