The Inflation Reduction Act and its impact on lowering drug prices for seniors were the focus of a roundtable session held at the Wilmington Senior Center. Hosted by Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, the event featured Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, administrator for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, who highlighted key provisions of the Act that benefit seniors.

During the roundtable, Brooks-LaSure outlined three important provisions available to seniors, including free vaccines, a $35 monthly cap on covered insulin, and a cap on catastrophic costs for out-of-pocket prescription drug expenses. These provisions aim to reduce the financial burden on seniors when it comes to accessing necessary medications.

One of the provisions discussed was Medicare’s ability to negotiate prescription drug prices. This initiative is crucial in helping seniors save on prescription drug costs, a significant issue for many individuals in this demographic. Another provision discussed was expanded eligibility for Medicare Part D’s Extra-Help Low-Income Subsidy, which can help seniors save money on their prescription drug expenses.

Rep. Blunt Rochester emphasized the importance of informing seniors about these benefits and encouraging them to take advantage of cost-saving opportunities offered by the Inflation Reduction Act. By raising awareness about these programs, more seniors can access affordable healthcare resources that can improve their quality of life and reduce financial stress.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 63,000 Delawareans are expected to save an average of $449 per year on prescription drug expenses due to the Act. Rep
