A new medical test is set to revolutionize the field of gastroenterology by offering a less invasive and more comfortable option for patients. Developed by American company Endiatx, the PillBot pill is a robot that has undergone 50 versions to reach its current size as a pill and is now entering clinical trials.

The PillBot pill-robot is designed to make gastroenterology diagnoses more accessible, convenient, and cost-effective. The device features a multi-pump propulsion system that allows it to move in different directions by emitting harmless fluid jets, along with a camera that transmits high-resolution video and LED lights. It can take advantage of the body’s natural movements to enter the digestive system and is equipped with artificial intelligence to maneuver autonomously.

As a result of these features, the PillBot could provide an early and effective detection method for various gastrointestinal conditions. With funding of $7 million obtained from investors, creator Torrey Smith has tested the prototype up to 43 times before entering clinical trials in phase 3. It is expected that this innovative approach to medical testing will be available for sale in 2026.
