Evonik’s TEGO Guard 9000 has been recognized for its unique quick-set property in exterior wall paints, receiving the Ringier Technology Innovation Award – Coating Industry. This award, which honors innovation in the coatings industry, has been presented annually since 2006. The jury commended Evonik’s new technology for improving the stabilization of paint ingredients in facade coatings immediately after application, providing swift protection against weathering.

The quick-set property of TEGO Guard 9000 is achieved through electrostatic interaction between a cationic organic polymer and the anionic paint ingredients in the coating formulation. This results in high rain resistance shortly after application, reduces moisture content in substrates and surfaces, and prevents moss and mold growth. TEGO Guard 9000 can be easily incorporated into coating formulations without compromising storage stability and is compatible with a variety of latex systems, PVCs, and color formulations.

Dr. Katina Kiep, head of the global decorative coatings market segment at Evonik Coating Additives, described TEGO Guard 9000 as a breakthrough technology for exterior wall paints. She emphasized that the quick-set property offers a sustainable solution for architectural facade coatings by reducing the impact of weathering on the application process and enhancing durability and long-term protection. Dr. Kiep expressed pride in the team’s inventiveness in developing this product and gratitude for receiving the award.
