Truckee Police Department in Reno has recently implemented innovative technology to combat crime more effectively. Flock Safety, a company that specializes in AI software, has introduced the Solar-Powered Condor, a live video and license plate recognition solution that can be installed anywhere by cities, law enforcement agencies, and businesses. The technology promises to reduce crime on a larger scale and faster than a police force alone.

The Solar-Powered Condor is a motion-activated camera that captures still images of passing vehicles and matches them to state and national databases. This allows the system to identify vehicles associated with known wanted suspects, stolen vehicles or missing persons. Lieutenant Kyle Vickers of the Truckee PD reports that the technology has helped solve hit-and-runs and attempted murder cases. In August, Truckee PD played a key role in the arrest of a homicide suspect from Citrus Heights thanks to an alert triggered by Flock Safety’s system.

Flock Safety’s technology provides objective, actionable evidence that is more reliable than traditional eyewitness testimony. Metz points out that 90% of stolen vehicle cases are linked to other illegal activities, underscoring the technology’s potential to reduce secondary crimes. By enabling law enforcement to follow up on solid evidence rather than unreliable information, Flock Safety’s solution represents a significant step forward in crime reduction strategies.

Overall, the implementation of this cutting-edge technology by Truckee Police Department is an effective way to combat crime efficiently and reduce its impact on society. With its ability to identify wanted suspects, stolen vehicles or missing persons quickly and accurately, it provides law enforcement with an essential tool for solving cases and reducing secondary crimes related to them.
