Apple has announced the new features that will be introduced in its upcoming operating system updates. Among these is iOS 18, which is dedicated to smartphones, and will include new icon and widget customization capabilities, as well as privacy features for blocking and hiding installed services.

Apple CEO Tim Cook unveiled the latest software updates at the World Developers Conference (WWDC) of 2024, which focused on operating systems for smartphones (iOS 18), tablets (iPadOS 18), Mac computers (macOS Sequoia), Apple Vision Pro, and Apple TVs with tvOS.

iOS 18 will feature a new application appearance with icons that can be customized and colored to match the background or stand out. The App Control Center will introduce continuous swipe navigation, and new controls for third-party apps will be available. Users will have greater control with tools like ‘Locked Apps’ and ‘Hidden Apps’ for added security.

Updates to the Messages app will include new ways to express and stay connected, with features like scheduled messages, text effects, and improved reactions. The Mail inbox will offer new ways to sort messages based on importance or urgency, while Wallet will introduce a ‘tap to cash’ option for easy payments.

The Photos application has been redesigned to improve organization, with new filter options and collections to make it easier to find and enjoy images. iOS 18 will also bring improvements to AirPods Pro interaction with Siri and new features like Voice Isolation for clearer communication in noisy environments.

iPadOS 18 will include many of the same features as iOS 18, along with a redesigned Photos app and a long-awaited Calculator function. The new macOS Sequoia for Mac computers will also feature iPhone Mirroring, Passwords app, and updates to Safari for improved web browsing.
