Project ATLANTIS, backed by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), has developed an aquaponic greenhouse farming system that incorporates Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This technology streamlines the monitoring and management of plant nutrients, water quality, and other factors that affect the growth of tilapia and lettuce. The collaboration between Batangas State University (BatStateU) and Turbulent Drip Sales Incorporated (TDSI) has been pivotal in this project.

The project’s objective is to reduce the time and effort needed to manage these critical parameters in aquaponics farming. By recycling and minimizing typical wastes produced in aquaculture, nutrients are made available for vegetable production. This environmentally friendly approach makes aquaponics farming more sustainable and efficient, providing local farmers with viable alternatives for growing vegetables and aquatic species without using harmful pesticides.

DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum, Jr., highlighted the importance of Project ATLANTIS in promoting innovative and sustainable farming practices. By blending aquaculture and hydroponics within a greenhouse environment, this project demonstrates how tilapia waste can be repurposed to nourish lettuce crops. The ultimate goal is to empower farmers with effective strategies for growing food crops while minimizing environmental impact.
