The shooting incident at Academy Sports + Outdoors in Jonesboro, Arkansas has left many unanswered questions. A call log revealed that someone reported a gun had been fired shortly after noon on January 23rd. The incident involved a Glock 43 9mm pistol, which was later confirmed to belong to Deputy Ruben Ivey, not the store.

Witness Quinton Robbins stated that customers urged the deputy to place the gun on the counter after the incident. Despite initial confusion about which law enforcement agency Ivey belonged to, it was later confirmed that he was a reserve officer with St. Francis County and had previously worked for West Memphis Police and Forrest City Police. Deputy Ivey reassured everyone that it was an accident and identified himself as a law enforcement officer.

Crittenden County Sheriff Mike Allen clarified on Facebook that Ivey was not affiliated with the Crittenden County Sheriff’s Department. No arrest has been made at this time according to JPD Public Information Specialist Sally Smith. Attempts to reach Academy Sports + Outlets for comment were unsuccessful as they referred inquiries to their corporate office, who have not responded.
