A historic building in Boise’s North End is set to undergo a major transformation into a self-serve dog wash called The Hydrant. The former AAA Sign building, which has sentimental value for its owner, Rod Adams, will be remodeled to accommodate the new business.

Adams purchased the building from his great uncle’s grandson in 2020 and submitted application documents in September 2022 to make the change. The remodel includes an HVAC overhaul, reorienting the staircase, and updating the electrical, drywall, and plumbing systems.

The goal is to have The Hydrant open for business in July. Located at 1210 W Sherman St. in Boise, the shop will feature seven dog wash tubs with dryers downstairs, along with a separate drying room for particularly furry dogs and a grooming area in the back. Adams, a dog lover himself, decided to open a self-serve dog wash after noticing a lack of such facilities in the North End.
