On Friday morning, a remote village in northern Papua New Guinea was hit by a landslide that buried at least 300 people. This was reported by local media in the country, despite the lack of official sources from authorities due to the challenges of access and communication in the region. According to parliamentarian Aimos Aken, the landslide in the town of Kaokalam buried hundreds of people and about 1,182 houses in the province of Enga.
Rescue efforts have been hindered by the need for machinery to move the stones and earth that buried the village.
