Jonathan Axelrod, a renowned television producer, writer, and studio executive, passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 13 at the age of 74 in Los Angeles. His ex-wife, television director/producer Katy Garretson, confirmed his death to Deadline.

Axelrod had a distinguished career in film and television. He founded and served as President of the talent agency Camden Artists and also held positions as President of New World Pictures and Columbia Pictures Television. Throughout his career, he collaborated with numerous individuals including actor-director Jamie Widdoes and writer-executive Kelly Edwards. Additionally, he worked as a Senior Vice President of Prime-Time Development and Vice President of Drama at ABC. In his later years, Axelrod produced over two dozen movies for the Hallmark Channel.

Born in New York City on July 9, 1949, Axelrod relocated to Beverly Hills at a young age. He later settled in Palm Springs after retiring in 2015. Axelrod was married multiple times and had a son, Samuel, who resides in New Mexico. His extended family is primarily based in New York where a private memorial service will be held.

Axelrod’s accomplishments throughout his career were numerous including producing movies for the Hallmark Channel and working on TV movies with director John Frankenheimer. He had a passion for storytelling and was known for his work on Hollywood Babylon, a 1992 series adaptation of Kenneth Anger’s book on Hollywood scandals. Throughout his life, Axelrod left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry.

Jonathan Axelrod’s illustrious career spanned over four decades in the film and television industry. As an accomplished studio executive, network president, producer and writer he made significant contributions to Hollywood’s storytelling scene.

Axelrod founded Camden Artists talent agency which paved the way for him to hold several leadership roles such as President of New World Pictures and Columbia Pictures Television.

Throughout his career he worked alongside notable figures like actor-director Jamie Widdoes and writer-executive Kelly Edwards among others.

In addition to producing over two dozen movies for the Hallmark Channel late into his life he also worked with esteemed director John Frankenheimer on various TV projects.
