R-kioski, a Swedish convenience store chain owned by Reitan Convenience, has announced its goal to support the transition towards less harmful nicotine products. The company’s decision follows in the footsteps of Pressbyrån and 7-Eleven, which plan to stop selling cigarettes in Finland. Reitan Convenience will begin phasing out traditional cigarette sales and focusing on products like nicotine pouches that are considered less harmful from 2026.

Reitan Convenience has noted a decrease in traditional cigarette sales and an increase in demand for nicotine pouches since their legalization in Finland last year. The company sells products classified as tobacco products under the law, including cigarettes and nicotine pouches. CEO Teemu Rissanen did not provide further comment beyond the press release.

In Sweden, Reitan Convenience plans to eliminate palm oil-containing products from its shelves by 2027 as part of its responsibility work. The company operates kiosks and store chains in Nordic and Baltic countries with around two thousand stores in total, including R-kioski with approximately 350 stores in Finland. Reitan Convenience is part of the Norwegian Reitan company and is a market leader in its operating countries. With a focus on promoting healthier choices and sustainable practices, Reitan Convenience is taking steps to align its business with these values.
