Regan Smith made history at the U.S. Olympic swimming trials on Tuesday night, setting a world record in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 57.13 seconds. This beat the previous record of 57.33 set by Australia’s Kaylee McKeown. Smith expressed her happiness over achieving this milestone, stating that it was part of her plan. This will be Smith’s second time representing the United States at the Olympics.

Despite a disappointing finish in the 100 butterfly event, where Smith finished third behind Gretchen Walsh and Torri Huske, she bounced back in the 100 backstroke. Katharine Berkoff secured the second Olympic spot with a time of 57.91. Smith previously won a bronze medal in the 100 backstroke at the Tokyo Olympics and is now solidifying her position as a top contender for gold in the event at the upcoming Paris Olympics.

The U.S. Olympic team trials showcased Smith’s exceptional talent and determination, setting the stage for an exciting competition in Paris. Fans and spectators can look forward to watching Smith and other top swimmers compete on the world stage for medals and glory.
