On Sunday, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made history by breaking her own world record in the 400-meter hurdles at the U.S. Olympic time trials with a time of 50.65 seconds. This marks the fifth world record she has broken in three years and makes her the first woman to break the 52- and 51-second marks in the event.
McLaughlin-Levrone will now be traveling to Paris to compete once again in the 400-meter hurdles, alongside Anna Cockrell and Jasmine Jones, who finished in second and third at the time trials, respectively. Cockrell achieved a personal best with a time of 52.64 seconds.
Fans can expect more great performances from McLaughlin-Levrone in Paris as she continues to solidify herself as an Olympic star. At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, she won gold in the event and also helped the United States earn gold in the 4×400-meter relay. This past Sunday, she broke her own world record in the 400-meter hurdles, marking her third Olympics appearance after making the United States Olympic track team at just 17 years old in 2016.
