At the 2024 Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers, Trey McKenney of Orchard Lake St. Mary’s Preparatory and Mileena Cotter of Salem were recognized as the Boys and Girls Athletes of the Year. The event, which took place at The Fillmore, honored over 300 student-athletes from the Detroit Metro area and surrounding counties.

On the boys’ side, McKenney won the Boys Basketball Player of the Year award for his impressive stats and ranking as a 5-star recruit. He averaged a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds this year, along with 2.5 assists. As a standout athlete in Michigan high school basketball history, McKenney has received offers to play college basketball from multiple schools.

On the girls’ side, Cotter is on track to become one of the most decorated high school lacrosse players in Michigan history. She scored an incredible 215 goals this season, breaking the previous single-season record by 43 goals. Cotter holds multiple spots on Michigan’s list of top single-game performances and holds an all-time leading scorer title in high school lacrosse in Michigan. A 5-star recruit, Cotter will continue her career at Syracuse University after her standout high school career.
