The Coastal Studies Institute hosts a monthly lecture series known as “Science on the Sound.” This series features experts from all around the state, with a focus on coastal topics in northeastern North Carolina.

On May 23 at 6 p.m., Dr. Alex Hodges, a clinical professor in the Department of Advanced Nursing Practice and Education at ECU, will be presenting on the potential risks and hazards associated with climate change. Her talk, titled “Ready for Change: Building Effective Climate Readiness,” will provide a nurse practitioner’s perspective on climate change and its implications for primary care.

Dr. Hodges is an expert in climate change who has worked with organizations such as Americares and Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the climate impacts within Eastern North Carolina. She volunteers at the Community Care Clinic of Dare, providing primary care services, and also serves on the Dare County Board of Health and Human Services.

The public is encouraged to attend this free event, which will also be live-streamed on the CSI YouTube channel. Come learn more about climate change and how to better prepare for related challenges.
