Amed Rosario had a terrifying moment during a Tampa Bay Rays game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, but luckily he seems to have avoided any serious injuries. In the first inning, Rosario was hit in the face by a 100-mph fastball from Jared Jones, causing him to stagger out of the batter’s box. Fortunately, the flap on his helmet managed to absorb most of the impact.

Immediately after the incident, both teams’ medical staff attended to Rosario as he walked off the field holding a towel. Three innings later, Bally Sports Sun’s Tricia Whitaker reported that Rosario had suffered facial lacerations without any signs of a fracture. This news is especially welcomed as Rosario has been having an impressive season so far, hitting a career-high batting average of .301/.323/.416.

The versatile player, who has experience at multiple positions, has been a valuable asset to the Rays since signing a one-year contract last offseason. With his history as a top prospect and former starting shortstop for the New York Mets, any serious injury would have been catastrophic for Rosario’s career trajectory. Thankfully, he seems to be recovering well from this scary moment on the field.
