The health department has closed a south Bakersfield restaurant due to a severe vermin infestation. This closure marks the first time in four months that a restaurant has been shut down by the health department. The Country Kitchen on El Potrero Lane cannot reopen until it is thoroughly cleaned.
During an inspection, a county inspector observed cockroaches, both dead and alive, throughout the cook line. A dead roach was found on a waffle maker, and a live roach was seen on a wiping cloth next to an open refrigerator. The restaurant manager did not respond to phone calls on Friday afternoon.
Additionally, 40 pounds of meth were seized from Bakersfield properties. These incidents highlight the importance of maintaining cleanliness and proper pest control in food establishments in order to ensure public health and safety.
