Despite ongoing concerns about the lack of security in his contract beyond 2024, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has chosen to attend the start of 2024 OTAs. Rumors circulated that Stafford’s camp leaked concerns about his contract situation after the Rams did not select a quarterback in the first round of the draft.

Initially, the team brushed off these concerns with vague statements, but coach Sean McVay later indicated that Stafford may receive a revised contract. However, there is no concrete evidence to suggest that a new contract has been signed. It’s possible that there have been verbal agreements that have yet to be formalized in writing.

People in St. Louis are urging Stafford to ensure that any promises made by the Rams are put in writing as soon as possible to avoid any misunderstandings. While Stafford could choose to leave voluntary workouts or skip mandatory events, he would face fines for doing so. With the recent huge contract given to Jared Goff by the Lions, Stafford may be seeking a similar deal with the Rams.

Stafford has some leverage in negotiations with options like Jimmy Garoppolo, Dresser Winn, and Stetson Bennett behind him. If he refuses to show up, it could put pressure on the team to meet his contract demands. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his contract, Stafford has the financial means to withstand any fines that may come his way.
