Afghanistan’s T20 World Cup campaign began with a dominant 125-run victory over Uganda in Guyana. Uganda, making their tournament debut, elected to bowl first as Afghanistan’s opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put on a stellar performance with a partnership of 154 runs. Gurbaz scored 76 off 45 balls, while Zadran scored 70 off 46 balls, setting Afghanistan up for a total of 183-5. Cosmas Kyewuta and Brian Masaba were the standout bowlers for Uganda, picking up two wickets each.

In contrast, Uganda struggled as Farooqi took 5-9, triggering a collapse that saw them bowled out for just 58 runs in 16 overs. Only two Ugandan batsmen managed to reach double digits as Afghanistan’s bowlers Khan and Haq also took two wickets each. As a result of this loss, Uganda will face Papua New Guinea in their next match in Group C, while Afghanistan will go up against New Zealand.
