In recent news, Quasar Science has released a new firmware update for its Double Rainbow (RR) and Rainbow 2 (R2) RGBX linear LED fixtures. The firmware, v0.9a, is available for free and includes several new features that are sure to excite users.

One of the most notable new features is the ability for any RR or R2 fixture to be a CRMX Transmitter. This expands networking options and allows users to bridge various wired and wireless lighting protocols directly from within the fixture. Additionally, improvements have been made to the dimming engine, making low-end dimming smoother in the 0 – 30% range by optimizing the system to utilize the full 16-bit pipeline.

Another exciting new feature is Latest Takes Precedence (LTP) merging, which enables two control devices on the same local network to send Multicast sACN at the same priority. This allows different controllers to control various parameters of the same lights simultaneously. The last controller to send a DMX value change takes precedence over that parameter.

Improvements to the firmware update also include faster boot times and improved Bluetooth response times. Firmware v0.9a for Double Rainbow and Rainbow 2 fixtures is now available as a free download from the Quasar Science website.
