IBM has partnered with Cleveland Clinic for a 10-year initiative to explore the use of quantum computing in healthcare. Through this collaboration, the health system’s team can work with IBM’s full range of computation capabilities, including high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. The goal of this long-term effort is to leverage quantum computing for faster diagnoses, personalized medicines, and improved data management.
As part of this initiative, three startups have been selected to participate in a 24-week Quantum Innovation Catalyzer Program. These companies will collaborate with Cleveland Clinic experts and working groups to learn and share best practices and explore new applications of quantum computing. They will also have the opportunity to present their findings to a wide audience of investors, clinical experts, corporate partners, and ecosystem collaborators.
One of the selected startups, Algorithmiq, is focused on developing advanced algorithms for the life sciences industry. Their goal is to utilize quantum computing to improve the understanding of photon-drug interactions, which can lead to advancements in cancer treatments, disease prevention, and medical imaging. Another startup, Picture Health, specializes in AI diagnostics for oncologists and will use quantum parallel processing to enhance medical image processing, with a focus on digital pathology and high-resolution histology. Lastly, Qradle Inc. is developing quantum software for drug discovery, including a tool to convert classical computing to quantum computing to improve drug discovery research utilizing existing AI and machine learning solutions.
The partnership between Cleveland Clinic and IBM aims to leverage quantum computing technology to drive innovation in healthcare and potentially revolutionize the way medical diagnoses and treatments are conducted.
