The digital age has brought significant advancements to the health care sector, including improved patient access to quality care. However, this new era also presents unique challenges and vulnerabilities, as evidenced by the recent cyberattack on Change Healthcare. In response to these concerns, House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Subcommittee on Health Chair Brett Guthrie (R-KY) have announced a subcommittee hearing titled “Examining Health Sector Cybersecurity in the Wake of the Change Healthcare Attack.”

The Subcommittee on Health hearing will focus on cybersecurity vulnerabilities within the health care sector. This hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET, and will take place at 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The witnesses for the hearing will be announced and invited to participate. The hearing will be open to the public, press, and will be live streamed online at https://energycommerce.house.gov/.

The purpose of this subcommittee hearing is to provide industry experts with an opportunity to discuss what steps need to be taken to secure patients’ health information and protect the health care sector from disruptions caused by cyber attacks like the one that occurred at Change Healthcare. During this event, panelists will examine current threats facing healthcare providers, discuss best practices for mitigating these risks, and explore emerging technologies that can help safeguard patient data.
