The U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration has announced the renewal of its Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Advisory Committee and is now seeking nominations for committee membership. This committee plays a key role in advising the agency on issues related to renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Meanwhile, the House Committee on Agriculture recently completed markup of its version of the 2024 Farm Bill and passed the proposed legislation by a 33-21 vote. The bill includes provisions that support the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) industry, highlighting the importance of investing in renewable energy sources for the agricultural sector.

In another development, Rep. Randy Feenstra and Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst from Iowa sent a letter to President Joe Biden and U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan urging the EPA to amend its Renewable Fuel Standard blending requirements. This shows a commitment to promoting renewable fuels and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector.

The U.S. DOE’s Bioenergy Technologies Office awarded $2.18 million in funding to four additional projects as part of the Feedstock-Conversion Interface Consortium (FCIC) 2023 Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) call. This funding will support research and development efforts to improve the conversion of bioenergy feedstocks into advanced biofuels.

Finally, the House Committee on Agriculture released a discussion draft of its version of the 2024 Farm Bill, titled the “Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2024.” The committee will begin markup of the bill on May 23, signaling a commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture practices and food security in the United States.
