Louisville, Kentucky: Scottie Scheffler, a professional golfer, was at the center of a legal saga that began with his arrest during the PGA Championship. The charges against him have been dismissed by Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell after a thorough review of the evidence.

The incident occurred at Valhalla Golf Course where Detective Bryan Gillis was directing traffic after a pedestrian death. Scheffler was driving a PGA courtesy vehicle when he encountered Gillis. According to the officer, Scheffler refused to comply with his orders and accelerated forward, dragging Gillis to the ground. Gillis sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Surveillance video released by Louisville police showed Gillis pursuing Scheffler’s vehicle and stopping him from entering the course. However, the video did not capture the initial contact between Scheffler and Gillis. The detective was disciplined for failing to activate his body-worn camera during the arrest.

Scheffler maintained that he simply misunderstood the commands given by traffic officers and did not intentionally harm the officer. Despite spending some time in jail, he returned to the tournament and finished tied for eighth place. The dismissal of charges brings an end to the legal ordeal for Scheffler.
