Intermountain Children’s Health is set to expand its behavioral health services with a new center in Taylorsville, Utah. The new family-centered facility aims to address the growing need for behavioral services for children, and will offer nearly 50% more inpatient beds and tailored mental health crisis care for youth with autism and neuro-diverse needs.
Katy Welkie, CEO of Primary Children’s Hospital, highlighted that these services often have long wait times. With the new $96 million dollar campus under construction, the intention is to expand programs and reduce wait times, including the addition of a crisis center where people can go directly instead of visiting the emergency department. This will help ensure that children receive timely access to care when they need it most.
The Behavioral Health Center at Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital will be a 90,000-square-foot facility offering specialized care for children in need of mental health services. Families will have the option to stay overnight and be actively involved in the healthcare plan. The facility is set to open in late 2025, with the goal of providing comprehensive behavioral health services to Utah children.
