President Lai Ching-te’s inaugural address on Monday focused on his plans to establish a new ministry of sports and physical education, as part of his mission to improve the health and wellbeing of the nation. He also emphasized the importance of energy transition policies to ensure a stable supply of electricity, and highlighted the need for developing more forms of green energy and smart grids to improve the resilience of the electrical power generation system.

President Lai further stressed the importance of sustainable development, including expanding services such as childcare, long-term care, and social housing. He also addressed issues such as commodity prices, housing, and wealth gap, outlining his administration’s focus on enhancing the safety and security of essential aspects of society like food, roads, schools and social safety net.

In addition to these issues, President Lai reiterated his commitment to continuing reform efforts in education, judicial system and transitional justice. The government under his leadership aims to address domestic challenges and strengthen Taiwan’s position amid geopolitical pressures.
