During a recent speech, President Joe Biden expressed his concerns about the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. The decision, which grants presidents immunity from criminal prosecution for “official acts,” is seen as a significant change by Biden.

Biden emphasized that the United States was founded on the principle of equality before the law and that no one, including the president, is above the law. He quoted Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent, warning of the potential dangers of the ruling to democracy.

The president criticized the new principle established by the 6-3 Supreme Court ruling, which grants the president virtually unlimited power and immunity from legal constraints. Biden expressed his worries about the implications of this decision, stating that it sets a dangerous precedent for the future.

Justice Sotomayor described the ruling as making the president “a king above the law.” Biden concluded his remarks by expressing a hope for the preservation of democracy in the face of this new legal precedent. His administration did not provide further comments on the issue when requested by Business Insider.
