The Portland World Naked Bike Ride took place on August 12, 2023 with hundreds of cyclists participating in the event. This ride has been a tradition in Portland for decades, serving as a protest against pollution-based transportation methods. However, in 2024, the event has been canceled, leaving the streets looking a bit emptier.

The organizers of the Portland World Naked Bike Ride (PDXWNBR) announced the cancelation of the 2024 event this year. They explained that the planning for the event did not start as expected, and by spring, it became clear that they were falling behind in their recruitment goals for leadership roles. The safety and accessibility of the protest require months of planning, and the organizers stated that they did not feel prepared to proceed with the event.

However, despite the disappointment caused by canceling this year’s event, PDXWNBR organizers emphasized that there are still opportunities for community engagement. They pointed out that there are still monthly full moon rides taking place throughout the year, and they are seeking volunteers for next year’s iteration of the naked bike ride in 2025. Community members who are interested can apply to join PDXWNBR Leadership Committee by September 6, 2024.

The organizers expressed their commitment to ensuring that future events are done properly in Portland. They emphasized the need to recruit new volunteers and incorporate diverse perspectives into their planning process. Individuals who have enjoyed past rides and want to get involved should consider joining PDXWNBR’s leadership team.
