Parliamentary representatives of the Homeland Movement, Most, Možemo, and SDP condemned a recent traffic accident involving Vukovar-Srijem district head Damir Dekani. They highlighted the political responsibility for Dekani’s actions and called on politicians to set a better example for citizens.
Ivana Mujkić, a deputy, expressed regret for the accident and emphasized that Dekani bears political, human, and legal responsibilities for his actions. She stated that it is ultimately his decision whether to resign or not but hopes that the Ministry of the Interior will take swift action, potentially revoking Dekani’s driver’s license as he poses a threat to public safety. Mujkić also stressed that actions of individual members should not reflect negatively on the Homeland Movement.
Nikola Grmoja of Most criticized politicians who violate laws and called on citizens to hold them accountable. He urged politicians to be exemplary role models and face strict consequences for such misconduct. Grmoja suggested that Dekani should seek treatment for his behavior and repeated violations.
Sandra Benčić from Možemo criticized the HDZ party for not removing Dekani after repeated offenses that endangered public safety. She called on the Prime Minister to question the presence of a repeat offender like Dekani in any political position. Benčić highlighted the need for stricter regulation enforcement to encourage responsible driving behavior among citizens.
SDP representative Arsen Bauk believes that Dekani should have resigned earlier, pointing out inconsistencies in how the situation was handled. He criticized the lack of immediate action from authorities and parties in addressing Dekani’s behavior. Bauk called for better moral standards in political circles to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
