In the west suburban town of Aurora, guests at a Holiday Inn Express & Suites hotel were instructed to remain in their rooms on Friday morning as police dealt with a “mental health issue” inside the hotel. The hotel, located at 111 N. Broadway Ave, was surrounded by police around 10:15 a.m. Cell phone footage showed multiple Aurora police cars in the hotel parking lot, with one officer carrying a riot shield and an assault rifle.

Todd Feurer, a web producer for CBS Chicago, had previously written for WBBM Newsradio, WUIS-FM, and the New City News Service. Guests who were staying at the hotel reported being advised to stay in their rooms while police responded to the situation. By 11 a.m., police confirmed that the “mental health issue” had been peacefully resolved and no guns were fired during the incident.
